Perez named as PSJMC’s 2009 Nurse of the Year

JOLIET — Lynette Perez was selected as Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center’s 2009 Nurse of the Year.

Lynette, who currently works in the Short Stay Unit on 3 East, has been an employee of PSJMC since 2005.

Her career has been enriched through experience and her interest in healthcare from an early age.

Lynette’s career began at the age of 15 as a candy striper. She enjoyed that experience and later became a pharmacy technician for many years.

When her two children were older, she decided to go back to school for nursing. She received her nursing certificate in 2005 and most recently, Lynette graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Lewis University.

Her willingness to expand and share her knowledge with her peers is an example of the generosity with which she approaches nursing.

Although Lynette only cares for her patients typically for a short time, she greatly enjoys the interaction with the patients.

Lynette is also very grateful to her co-workers and is glad to be apart of such a wonderful team.

Lynette was honored along with the 2009 Nurse of the Year Nominees at a special luncheon at the conclusion of National Nurses Week.

Lynette is still in shock and is very honored to be awarded with this prestigious recognition.

Here are some comments that were shared by Lynette’s co-workers on her nomination form:

“Lynette is a remarkable nurse. She has excellent clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills."

“Lynette has a wonderful relationship with all of the physicians and staff that she works with. She is always approachable and willing to assist in any way that she can.”

Nurses from throughout the Medical Center are nominated by their peers for their clinical skills, how they relate to patients, families and co-workers, and other criteria.

The winner of this award is considered to be a role model in their field. Lynette will receive money to put towards continual education and is looking forward to representing PSJMC as Nurse of the Year.

Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center’s nursing staff is known for providing an amazing level of care on a daily basis to the community.
