Olvera pleads guilty in fatal wreck

Was drunk at time of crash that killed St. Charles woman

An Oak Lawn man faces up to 14 years in prison in connection with a fatal June accident.

Sentencing for Joe Olvera Jr., 33, Oak Lawn, was set for Dec. 18, after he appeared in circuit court Tuesday and pleaded guilty two counts of aggravated DUI.

He remains in the county jail unable to post $50,000 bond.

Olvera was charged with six counts of aggravated DUI following an accident June 14, which claimed the life of Meagan Ahlstrom, 24, St. Charles, and injured her mother, Rebecca Ahlstrom.

Grundy County deputies reported Olvera was southbound on Illinois 47, near the Grundy County Fairgrounds about 4:45 a.m. June 14, when he crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the vehicle driven by Meagan Ahlstrom.

In court Tuesday, Olvera pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI for driving an Isuzu on Illinois 47 with a blood alcohol level of more than .08 and being involved in the fatal accident

He also pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and being involved in an accident that caused permanent injury to Rebecca Ahlstrom.

"He is elgibile for a sentence of 3 to 14 years on count 2 (the fatality), and 1 to 12 years on count 3," State's Attorney Sheldon Sobol said.
