Jesse Enger

SERENA, Ill. — Mr. Jesse Enger, 89, of Serena, died Monday April 5, 2010 at Ottawa Regional Hospital & Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Serena United Methodist Church. Pastor Jonathan Crail will officiate.

Interment will be at the Norway Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9 at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd. in Sheridan, Ill.

Born Sept. 9, 1920 near Stavanger, Ill., Jesse was the son of Joseph and Mary (Helland) Enger. He married Hazel (Sebby) Feb. 9, 1942 at the Stavanger Lutheran Church. Hazel passed away March 21, 2000.

For most of his life, Jesse was a crop and dairy farmer in the Serena area. He was a member of the Serena United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Serena Lions Club. He had served on the Serena Civil Defense Auxiliary Unit, had served on the Sandwich Hospital Board for 10 years, had been on the Board of Directors and past president of the Fox Valley Older Adult Services and had been a part-time custodian at Serena High School.

He is survived by his son, Jerald (Carla) Enger of Serena; four grandchildren, Ian (Kelly) Enger, Molly (Shawn) Blobaum, Steve Resler and Sara Resler; and two great-grandchildren, Danny Enger and Dawson Enger.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Enger, and a brother, Marshall Enger.

Pallbearers will be Ian Enger, Shawn Blobaum, Richard Tuntland, David Tuntland, Leo Graham, Ron Riveland, David Enger and Floyd Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Temple, Joseph Temple and Larry Varland.

Memorials may be directed to donors choice.
