Grundy County offers electronics collection

E-waste recycling set in conjunction with ‘Recycle Day’

There will be one last opportunity in 2010 for Grundy County residents to recycling their e-waste at a local event.

In recognition of America Recycles Day, Grundy County will conduct an electronics collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Environtech Landfill, 1800 Ashley Road in Morris.

Collecting close to 31,000 pounds of electronics in June, this program is for residents of Grundy County, as well as schools, libraries and businesses within the county. The department asks that businesses, schools and libraries please call the Environmental and Resource Conservation Office at (815) 941.3365 to notify them of attendance.

With the recent introduction of e-waste recycling legislation, electronics manufacturers now are responsible for the cost of recycling millions of pounds of residential electronic waste (e-waste) in Illinois every year.

Residents can help make Illinois greener by buying equipment from manufacturers that have registered with the state and are complying with Illinois law. The Illinois EPA website has a list of those manufacturers available by visiting www.epa.state.il.us.

The following items will be accepted at the event: computers, monitors, printers, printer cartridges, laptops and laptop accessories, hard drives, power cables, networking equipment, fax machines, photocopiers, cell phones, CD players, DVD players, digital games, UPSs, VCRs, MP3s and PSPs.

Cardinal Recycling will also be on hand to assist with the white good collection. Residents bringing scrap items for proper reuse will not receive any type of reimbursement.
