Three employees charged with selling liquor to minor

LOCKPORT, Ill. — Illinois State Police Zone 3 officers conducted Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (A.C.E.) surveys at various establishments during the evening hours of Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, in Grundy County.

The purpose of A.C.E. surveys is to determine which businesses may be selling alcoholic beverages to minors (persons under 21 years of age).

A total of 18 locations were surveyed in Mazon, Coal City, Morris, Diamond and Braidwood, and three purchases were made.

Ashton A. Brainard, 24, of Coal City, employee at Diamond Liquors, Diamond; Jason C. Valerio, 40, of Morris, employee at The Sandlot, Morris; and Dawn D. Siwek, 45, of Coal City, employee at Bozo’s Liquor, Coal City, were charged with the sale of alcohol to a minor. All three were released on a notice to appear in court.

Employees at the following establishments are to be commended for not selling alcohol to a minor after asking for identification: Mazon Groceries, Casey’s General Store, and Mazon Shell Fast-N-Fresh, all in Mazon; Super Pantry, Coal City BP Fast-N-Fresh, and T.D. Pete’s, all in Coal City; Feeney’s Package Liquors, Four Seasons Liquor, Brandt’s Tavern, all in Morris; Casey’s General Store in Diamond; and Circle K, Braidwood Liquors, Casey’s General Store, KV Oil Corporation and Braidwood Amoco Food Shop, all in Braidwood.
