Shirley Mae Kasher

BRAIDWOOD, Ill. — Mrs. Shirley Mae (Koca) Kasher, 84, of Braidwood, Ill., passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

Born Dec. 22, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Joseph and Emily (Kratochvil) Koca, Shirley served as rrustee of Reed Township from May 1969 to April 1982, and as Reed Township Clerk from May 1982 to August 2009.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Council of Catholic Women, both in Braidwood, and the American Legion Koca Post #39 Women’s Auxiliary in Braidwood.

She married Robert William Kasher July 17, 1948 in Braidwood. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2011.

Surviving are her children, Sandra (William) Ritze, Susan (James) McCreery, Craig (Denise) Kasher, and Diane (Dale) Eslinger; eleven grandchildren, Kimberly and BJ Ritze, Stephanie (Branden) Petersen, Jamie McCreery, David (Ashley) Kasher, Brian (Tahleatha) Kasher, Sgt. Kevin and Kathy Kasher, Becky (Brian) Mellen, Bill (Lori) Eslinger, and Sarah (George) Weaver; thirteen great-grandchildren, Will and Emma Ritze, Madalyn and Owen Petersen, Troy Kasher, Emily Walker, Zachary, Austin and Cassie Mellen, Nathan and Emma Eslinger, Dalton Galonos, and Kaylee Weaver; sisters-in-law, Antoinette Koca, Evelyn Kasher and Alice Kasher; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her brother, Donald Koca, and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Kasher and Raymond Kasher.

Funeral services for Shirley and her husband, Robert, will be from the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd, Braidwood Chapel, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, to the Immaculate Conception Church in Braidwood for Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill.

Visitation for Mr. & Mrs. Kasher will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Legion Koca Post #39 in Braidwood.
