Jacob J. Meyerhoff, 19, of Minooka, an employee of Dolphin Car Wash in Morris, told Morris Police a vehicle in the “tunnel” of the car wash was finished with the wash and stopped in the tunnel Friday, Dec. 23. Meyerhoff said there was an automatic shifter on the steering wheel.

When the employee entered the vehicle to move it from the tunnel to be wiped down, he flipped the shifter to drive. The vehicle lurched forward and struck a second vehicle waiting to be wiped off.

Meyerhoff said he did not have his foot on the brake or gas pedals.

When the second vehicle was hit, it was pushed forward into a third vehicle that was in park. The driver of the third vehicle, Michael J. Kuban, 65, of 1276 Heritage Drive in Morris, said he was getting ready to leave when he was hit from behind.

The first vehicle had extensive damage to the front end. The second received extensive damage to the front end and rear bumper. The third vehicle had damage to the rear bumper.

Kuban complained of pain to his lower back, but refused medical attention at the scene.

All vehicle owners were notified of the accident, as was the owner of Dolphin Car Wash.
