BULLETINS: Verona UMC will serve pork roast this Saturday

VERONA, Ill. — The Verona United Methodist Church will hold its 17th annual Pork Roast Supper from 4 to 6 p.m.  Saturday, March 24.

The menu includes pork roast, dressing, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, homemade desserts and drinks.

Price for adults is $10; for children 5 to 12, $5; kids under 4, free. Carryouts are available.

Euchre party set for Saturday night

The Community Life Commission of Immaculate Conception Parish is sponsoring a Euchre Party at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24.

Held in the St. Angela Room of Immaculate Conception School, the party costs $10 per person.
Please bring a snack and a friend (or two)!

All adults 18 years and older are invited to attend.

Appalachian craft items for sale at Wilmington church

WILMINGTON, Ill. — From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, First United Methodist Church of Wilmington is hosting Red Bird Mission Crafts.

Offered will be quality Appalachian crafts.

The Red Bird Mission, located in the southeastern Kentucky mountains, is an agency of Red Bird Missionary Conference related to the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.

Red Bird Mission has a school, medical center, community outreach, community housing improvement, and economic opportunities.

By providing a market for local artisans, the craft program is a vital part of economic development. This source of income is important to an area of 50 percent unemployment.

They will have many crafts made within an 80-mile radius of the mission. There will be beautiful baskets, some made with honeysuckle vines or creek willow.

Another native art represented is the woven rug using scrap materials. Doll collectors will have fun seeing a variety of handmade dolls.

They also have an assortment of corn shuck items, candles, jewelry, jams and jellies.

Ministry Fair will take place at IC

After Masses on Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25, Immaculate Conception Parish in Morris will hold a Ministry Fair in the Narthex of the church.

Representatives from several commissions will be present with information about different commissions, committees and organizations parishoners can join.

There are many opportunities to minister in the parish, stop and see if one is calling you.

Lutheran church offers classes for possible members

Bob Peterson, interim pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Morris, will conduct a membership information class at 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, March 25.

Anyone who would like information about the Lutheran Church is welcome to attend.

New members will be received at Peace Lutheran on April 1, 2012, during the regular 9 a.m. worship service.

The church is located at 101 Candlelight Lane at the corner of Lisbon Road.

Each Sunday at the worship service, holy communion is offered.

Dimes will buy what you want

CHANNAHON — The Channahon United Metho-dist Church’s Ladies Aid Thrift Shop will hold a 10¢ sale Monday, March 26.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, all used items will sell for 10 cents.

Soup, sandwiches served in Gardner

GARDNER — Gardner United Lutheran Church will host a Soup Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29.

The menu includes your choice of four different soups: broccoli & cheese, chicken & rice, vegetable beef or hamburger soup. You will have a choice of ham salad, egg salad or grilled cheese sandwiches.

There will also be a variety of desserts and drinks available.

Cost for adults is $7; for kids 6 to 12 years, $4; and for those 5 and under, free. Come and enjoy an evening of good soup and fellowship.

Our Savior’s will serve breakfast on Palm Sunday

SENECA - Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 300 E. Union St., Seneca, will sponsor its annual Palm Sunday Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, April 1.

Adults eat for $6, children 12 and younger, $3, and children 3 and younger eat for free.

The menu consists of eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, milk and coffee.

Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit Lutherdale Bible Campers.

Breakfast on Palm Sunday will fund IC scholarships

Immaculate Conception Parish will host a Pancake Breakfast  from 7 to 11 a.m. on Palm Sunday, April 1.

The all-you-can-eat meal will include pancakes, Sausage, Biscuits and Gravy, and even fruit toppings for the pancakes.

The price is $5 for adults, with a maximum price of $15 for a family.

All proceeds from the breakfast will go towards the college scholarships offered by the Men’s Club, which are open to all Immaculate Conception Parish high school seniors.

Holy Week services planned at CCUMC

COAL CITY, Ill. — Everyone is invited to worship at Coal City United Methodist Church during Holy Week.

Located at 6805 E. McArdle Road, Coal City, the church has a full schedule of worship services planned during the week preceding Easter.

The church will celebrate Palm Sunday on April 1. Worship services are at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Both services will include a Parade of Palms.

A Community Maundy Thursday Service is set for April 5.

This service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Coal City United Methodist Church.

First Baptist Church, New Hope Presbyterian Church and Coal City United Methodist Church will all be participating in this special worship service. Holy Communion will be served and special music will be provided by a Combined Community Choir.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Coal City United Methodist Church will all be participating in a  special Community Good Friday worship service on April 6.

This service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 4470 E. Illinois 113, Mazon.

The Easter Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 8, will take place at 6 a.m. It will be held rain or shine, but will take place outside if weather permits.

Additional Easter Worship Celebrations will take place at 8 and 10:30 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary.

In between worship services, at 9 a.m., Sunday School will be held for all ages.

There will be an Easter egg hunt and the Easter Bunny will be visiting!

Ecumenical service set for Good Friday

PLAINFIELD — St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Chur-ch in Plainfield will host a Good Friday Ecumenical Worship Service sponsored by The Plainfield Ministerial Association.

Planned for noon on  April 6, the service will take place at St. Mary Immaculate Church, 15629 South Illinois 59, Plainfield.

This Good Friday service is an ecumenical celebration of Jesus’ Passion and Crucifixion through shared scripture, prayer and hymns led by clergy and musicians from Plainfield area Christian churches.

Participating churches include the Church of the Good Shepherd Evangelical, Hope United Methodist Church, Friendship Bap-tist Church, Crosswinds Church, Plainfield United Methodist Church, Plymouth Congregational Church, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. Mary Immaculate Church, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and Sharon United Methodist Church.

The Plainfield Ministerial Association is an organization of local church leaders who help to provide resources for those in need. A Free Will Offering will be accepted after the service to benefit the Ministerial Emergency Relief Fund.

Three Rivers will re-enact Biblical events of Easter

PLAINFIELD — Three Rivers Church of Plainfield will present a powerful visual re-enactment of Biblical events surrounding the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ on Good Friday, April 6.

“Who Moved the Stone?” will be presented at 7 p.m. on Good Friday, April 6; 6 p.m. Saturday, April 7; and at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Easter Sunday, April 8.

Come experience a dramatic portrayal of the history-changing  and life-altering events following Jesus’ crucifixion. Witness the unfolding political, social, religious and spiritual repercussions among Jewish priests and Roman soldiers, Jesus’ followers and His skeptics, angels and mere men.

Then, answer the question for yourself:  “Who moved the stone?”

Baptist Church again hosting Easter egg hunt

CHANNAHON, Ill. — First Baptist Church will host its 9th annual Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday April 7.

There are thousands of stuffed-full Easter eggs, age-appropriate hunts and drawings for Easter baskets… including baskets for mom and dad.

A peanut-free area is available.

The First Baptist Church is at 24466 W. Eames St., Channahon.

Grace Lutheran to serve breakfast on Easter Sunday

Grace Lutheran Church will host its annual Easter Pancake and Sausage Breakfast at 8 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 8.

The menu will include pancakes, coffee cake, pastries, orange juice, coffee and milk.

All are invited to this free breakfast followed by a Resurrection Day worship service at 9:30 a.m.
