The Illinois Department of Commerce approved the Grundy Economic Development Council's application to establish a second Economic Development Project Area (EDPA #2), according to GEDC CEO Nancy Norton Ammer in an email sent Monday afternoon.

Ammer said the zone is comprised primarily of Midwest Generation’s Collins Station and some adjacent properties.

"Hopefully, this new tool will further improve our chances of getting the Collins Station redeveloped and creating jobs for Grundy County residents," she said.

In addition, Ammer point out Grundy County’s February 2102 unemployment rate was at 11.9 percent, which was an improvement compared to the February 2011 rate of 13.5 percent and just last month’s January 2012 rate of 12.9 percent.

"Still unacceptably high, but definitely moving in a positive direction," Ammer said.
