(MCT) — A 17-year-old girl from Lake County was killed and two other people injured when the car she was in hit a truck and then struck a van on a ramp from Interstate 355 to the Reagan Tollway Saturday morning, police said.
The victim, identified by state police as Amber Elizabeth Adams of the 3900 block of Lowe Street in north suburban Park City, was dead on the scene following the crash about 11:30 a.m., according to an Illinois State Police master sergeant, citing a preliminary report.
A 2006 Mercury was changing lanes on the ramp when it cut off a white Ford. It then hit the trailer of a semi-trailer truck that was parked on the right shoulder of the ramp, partly in the right lane, before bouncing off and hitting the van, police said.
Adams was a front seat passenger in the Mercury and was wearing her seat belt during the wreck, said Illinois State Police Tollway District Master Sgt. Chadd Brody today.
Two other people from the 2006 Mercury, both male, also were injured in the crash, with at least one of them ejected. Neither was believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries and both were being treated at local hospitals, according to police.
A 17-year-old from Woodridge who was driving the Mercury was given a ticket for improper lane use while the trucker was cited for parking on the shoulder, Brody said. Brody declined to release the motorist's name because he is considered a juvenile.
The crash remains under investigation Sunday afternoon.
There was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.
