Morris Special Olympic swimmers get 18 gold medals

The Morris Special Olympics swimming team was in competition in recent days. Participating in regional action, the locals had 15 athletes, of which they brought back 18 gold medals, three silver, five bronze, four fourth place ribbons and two fifth place ribbons.

Members of the team include: Shannon Wexell, Katie Boywid, Kevin Boywid, Lori Harvill, Callie Frazier, Caitlin Cox, Matthew Marsmaker, Brandy Laursen, Hayley Brown, Mackenzie Blair, Julian Delgado, Colin, Peter Mankowski, and Drew Kirkman.
 
Boywid won gold in both the 100 meter freestyle and the 50 meter backstroke; Wexel won gold in the 25 meter back and silver in the 25 meter freestyle; Cox won gold in the 25 meter free and was fourth in the 25 meter back; Kirsh won bronze in the 50 meter free and was fourth in the 25 meter free; Harvill won gold in the 25 meter free and bronze in the 25 meter back; Blair won gold in the 25 meter back and bronze in the 25 back; Brown won gold in the 100 breaststroke and silver in the 25 breast; Kirkman won gold in both the 25 meter butterfly and the 50 meter butterfly; Boywid won bronze in the 25 back and was fourth in the 25 meter free; Marsmaker won gold in the 25 freestyle and was fourth in the 25 meter backstroke; Delgado was fifth in the 25 meter freestyle; Mankowski won gold in the 50 meter free and was fifth in the 25 meter free; Frazier won silver in the 25 meter back and bronze in the 50 free; Campbell won gold in both the 50 meter free and 50 meter back and Laursen won gold in the 25 meter backstroke and bronze in the 50 meter back.

Additionally, the women's 4x25 meter relay team of Cox, Frazier, Harville and Brown also won gold.

That relay team, along with all the other gold medal winners, will be competing on Saturday down in Bloomington at the State Special Olympics meet.
