Brenda Joy Certa

Mrs. Brenda Joy Certa, 49, of Morris, Ill., passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, May 6, 2012, at her home.

Born Nov. 23, 1962, to Joseph F. and Anita (Kuhn) Stezowski in South Haven, Mich., Brenda graduated from South Haven High School in 1981. Brenda then earned a degree at Western Michigan University and, later, completed her master's at Illinois State University.

She was a teacher for 25 years at Braidwood Elementary School in Braidwood, Ill. 

She was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church. 

Surviving are her husband, Blake Certa; two sons, Alex Certa of Peoria, Ill., and Matt Certa of Morris; and her father, Joseph (Jennie) Stezowski of South Haven, Mich. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, and a sister, Valerie Stezowski. 

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012, at he Coal City United Methodist Church, with Dr. Thomas Logston officiating. She will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Ferrari Funeral Services on the ccorner of Spring Road and Ferrari Drive in Coal City.

Graveside services will be Monday, May 14, at Monks Cemetery in Geneva Township, South Haven, Mich., with the Rev. Harold Filbrandt officiating. Filbrandt Family Funeral Home of South Haven will assist the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brenda’s name may be directed to the Coal City United Methodist Church Building Fund, Joliet Area Community Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The American Cancer Society Relay For Life, or to the charity of the donors choice.
