Morris police arrested a man they said broke into a gas station and stole merchandise and equipment.

According to a Morris Police Department press release, at about 11:50 p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to Kneller’s Shell Station, located in the 2000 block of N. Division Street, for a burglary in progress.

At the scene, officers saw the front door of the business was shattered, and witnesses gave a description of the man and the car he was riding in leaving the gas station.

Officers later saw a car that matched the description and made a traffic stop, and arrested Jose E. Acosta, 54, of Morris, for burglary.

Morris Police Chief Brent Dite said Acosta reportedly took lottery tickets and a credit card imprint machine from the business, and that investigation is continuing.

Acosta was transported to the Grundy County jail, where he was held without bond.
