Rose Carpenter

COAL CITY, Ill. — Mrs. Rose Carpenter, 79, of Coal City, Ill., passed away Tuesday morning, June 5, 2012, at her home.
 
Born July 21, 1932, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Anna Rose was a daughter of the late John Claude and Eugenie Blanchard-Gumbs. She was raised and educated in St. Thomas. On Feb. 26, 1952, Rose married Kenneth Carpenter in New Bern, N.C.

She retired from DeMert and Dougherty in Coal City after more than 26 years of service, and was a member of the Coal City Area Club. Rose enjoyed gardening and cooking, and will be remembered for the cherished time spent with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
 
Survivors include her children, Carol Brainard of Diamond, Ill., Bill (Lou Ann) Carpenter, Timmie (Kathleen) Carpenter, and Kenny (Marcia) Carpenter, all of Coal City, and John (Madeline) Carpenter of Naperville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Chris Brainard, Josh Brainard, Rose Carpenter, Jack Carpenter, Nathan Carpenter, Jason Onsen, Shanta (Curt) Adams, Savannah Carpenter and Martha Stewart; six great-grandchildren, Blayne, Makenna and Peyton Adams and Carson, Helen and Meghan Onsen; nine brothers and sisters, John Gumbs, Rita Tarman, Francillia (Louis) Blanchard, Mary Smith, Patsy (Wally) Vega, Teddy Gumbs, Carol (Danny) Stinson, Frank Gumbs and Kenneth (Sarah) Gumbs; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Carpenter and Janie Carpenter; numerous nieces and nephews; and one uncle and several cousins in the Caribbean.
 
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth, on Jan. 4, 1996; and two brothers, Paul and Andy.
 
Per Rose's wishes, private family graveside services will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood, Ill., where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Kenneth.
 
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Rose's memory to the Coal City Food Pantry, 6805 East McArdle Road, Coal City, IL 60416.
