Board looks to honor veterans of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France.

More than 9,000 Allied troops were either killed or wounded during the offensive, but the eventual victory signaled the beginning of the end for Hitler and the German Army.

As we remember D-Day, the Grundy County Board would like to invite all Grundy County veterans who were involved in D-Day in any way to the Tuesday, June 12, board meeting to be recognized and thanked by the community.

The board meeting is at 5:30 p.m. in the Grundy County Administration Center, 1320 Union St., Morris.
