As the fourth season of the 3 French Hens French Country Markets got under way, a first in market history occurred in May... rain!
The French Hens promise, however, that there will be sunny skies for the market to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, along the I & M Canal in downtown Morris.
With a record number of vendors surpassing 100 (despite the rain) shoppers last month were pleased to discover many new sellers among old favorites. Once again there will be new additions, including shaved ice, cotton candy, and additional specialty wares.
The Hens would like to remind those coming to bring a small cooler perfect for perishables, cheeses, etc., as the temperatures start to heat up.
Organizers are also pleased to announce that, for the second year in a row, the 3 French Hens Market will be featured in the August issue of Romantic Homes magazine. They credit and thank all of the quality vendors and artisans participating for help in achieving this honor.
"Our vendors and the spectacular location along the historic Illinois & Michigan Canal are truly what sets us apart," a press release about the 3 French Hens Market noted. "We were recently looked at by Midwest Living magazine for 2013, and are hopeful the market will be included in a future issue. We love sharing our wonderful community with those from near and far."
If you are headed to the Market today, please keep in mind the hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and that, while vendors may be there as early as 6a.m., most are not ready to start selling until closer to the 8 a.m start.
There is ample parking along the side streets and in the city lots, with all vendors gladly storing purchases until you are ready to drive up and load.
"If you have not joined us at a previous Market, come out and see why Romantic Country voted us one of the top 5 Markets in the Nation," the press release added.
Today's French Country Market is just one of many events going on in and around downtown Morris today.
The annual Dulcimer Festival is going on right down the towpath at Gebhard Woods State Park, and is sure to have some great music all day long... you can even walk the towpath to it.
Plus, those who stick around until evening can experience the areas largest Cruise Night in downtown Morris, with 500+ vintage and classic vehicles, many traveling from across Illinois and even out of state to partcipate.
