Charles Kovel

Charles “Chi” Kovel, 86, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.

Charles was a World War II Iwo Jima Marine Veteran and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Mr. Kovel is survived by his loving children, Charles (Tina) Kovel, Frank (Rhonda) Kovel, and Carla (Kirk) Ripsch; a brother, Tom Kovel; sisters Mame, Stephanie, Dorothy, and Betty; and grandchildren Kyle, Chase, Cale, Calli, Tara, Elizabeth, and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Anna Kovel; his wife, Louise “VV” Kovel; daughters LuAnn Kovel and Holly Rawlins; five brothers; and three sisters.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St., Joliet. Charles will lie in state on Tuesday, June 12, from 9:30 a.m., with a service to begin at 10 am., at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hodgkins, Ill. Interment with military honors will follow at St John Lutheran Cemetery in Hodgkins.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, 30 North Michigan Ave., Suite 2015, Chicago, IL 60602, or to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 6605 Kane Road, Hodgkins, IL 60525, would be appreciated.
