New COO-rdinator

O’Connor will run operations of Morris Hospital

Patrick J. O’Connor is the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. He is the hospital’s first COO since 2008.

As COO, O’Connor is responsible for the overall operations of the organization and the implementation of strategic projects, in addition to assuming senior management responsibility for the eight Healthcare Centers, Immediate Care, Radiology, Rehabilitation Services, and Registration/Scheduling.

A native of Chicago, O’Connor most recently served as System Director of Patient Financial Services at Jewish Hospital & St. Mary’s Healthcare in Louisville, Ky.

Prior to this position, he spent nine years with Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital in Lake Forest, Ill., first as director of patient accounts and then as executive director of revenue cycle operations. He has also held leadership positions in patient accounts and patient financial services with Vista Healthcare in Waukegan, Ill., and Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie, Ill.

A graduate of Ravens-wood Hospital School of Nursing, O’Connor became interested in the business side of healthcare while working as a registered nurse. He went back to school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in finance from Western International University in Phoenix, Ariz., followed by a master’s in business sdministration from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

According to Mark Steadham, president & CEO of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, O’Connor was selected for the position by an expansive interview team that included physicians, hospital board members and managers.

“Our board of directors believes that having a chief operating officer is more imperative now than ever, especially with our fast paced and ever-changing health care environment,” Steadham said.

“The addition of a COO gives us the depth we need to devote more time to strategy and growth, two factors that are critical to the long term success of Morris Hospital.

“Patrick has impressive leadership and operational skills that will help us continue to make strides in the areas of quality and patient perception, as well as physician perception of Morris Hospital as a great place to practice medicine.”

O’Connor is a former secretary/treasurer of the Bboard of directors for the Lake Forest Managed Care Association and has also been involved with the Healthcare Financial Managers Association. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He and his wife, Annette, have three sons, ages 22, 18 and 17.
