Healthy, cool summer snacks

shaw-push-component-1

Nothing tastes better on a hot summer day than a cool, refreshing treat. Try these recipes below to make your own healthy summer snacks for you and the kids.

Smoothies:

Smoothies are a delicious and healthy snack for a hot summer day.

Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium, potassium and protein. Fruits are full of vitamins, antioxidants, phytochemicals and fiber.

Mix a cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt with a cup of frozen, unsweetened fruit. Let frozen fruit thaw slightly or heat in microwave for less than a minute to slightly soften.

Puree in blender until chunks are gone and drink is smooth. If you need to, you can add a small amount of juice or water to help puree. Makes two 8-ounce servings.

Healthy yogurt pops:

Make smoothies, according to the recipe above. Fill popsicle molds and insert popsicle stick into the middle. Freeze and enjoy.

Healthy popsicles:

Using 100 percent fruit juice (Juicy Juice) or a fruit and vegetable juice combination (Fruitables or V8 V-Fusion), fill popsicle molds to make your own healthy popsicles without any added sugar, artificial flavors and colors.
