Childbirth classes scheduled for October

Upcoming courses geared for parents and new siblings

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers has announced its schedule of Childbirth and Family Classes for October.

Introduction to Breastfeeding will be offered Monday, Oct. 10, from 10-11 a.m. in the Family Birthing Suites Classroom at Morris Hospital.

Taught by an obstetrical nurse/certified lactation consultant, the class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping techniques, and tips for returning to work.

Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding.

Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their infants. The class is free.

A Super Saturday Childbirth class will be offered Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This one-day class covers labor, comfort measures, relaxation and medical interventions, pain management options and vaginal and cesarean birth.

The delivery process and post partum care will be explained in one of the Family Birthing Suites, and a tour will be provided of the entire obstetrical unit.

This class, along with a breastfeeding class, gives expecting couples all of the information needed for a great labor experience.

Lunch will be provided. The cost is $60.

A New Siblings class will be offered Sunday, Oct. 21, from 3:30-4:15 p.m. This fun class is for children ages 3-7 who are preparing to welcome a new brother or sister.

Siblings-to-be will learn how a newborn baby looks and acts and what happens while mom and baby are in the hospital.

Activities, discussion and a tour of the birthing suites help children feel a part of the experience.

Each child should bring a doll or stuffed animal. The cost is $10 per child.

Those who aren’t able to attend a full day childbirth class or series but have questions in regards to the labor process or just want to tour the delivery suites are invited to Family Birthing Suites Quick Prep on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Participants will meet with a nurse in one of the birthing suites and talk through a delivery and get answers to questions.

This is not a replacement for a childbirth class but rather an option for those who have busy schedules and can’t attend a full class, or for those who just want a refresher.

The cost is $10.

Registration for childbirth and family classes must be completed online at For more information, call 815-942-2932, ext. 7301.
