Harriet (Matteson) Lapich

ST. CLAIR, Mich. — Mrs. Harriet (Matteson) Lapich, 88, of St. Clair, Mich., formerly of Morris, passed away Sept. 23, 2012, at Medilodge of St. Clair, where she had resided the past four years.

Born May 21, 1924, in Blue Earth, Minn., Harriet was the daughter of Stene and Winifred (Thorsen) Stangland. She attended Morris High School and graduated in 1942.

On May 13, 1943, she married Russell E. Matteson. They lived most of their lives in Morris and relocated to Farmington, Mich., in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1967.

While she lived in Morris, Harriet was employed by the First National Bank and Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Morris. She was later employed by an advertising firm in Michigan.

In 1969, she married Ken Clum in Michigan, and they spent 10 years together.

Harriet married Richard Lapich on July 16, 1982 and he also preceded her in death in 1998.

In recent years, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair, Mich. She always enjoyed traveling to Morris over the years to visit her family and friends. In recent years, she enjoyed playing Bridge and volunteering at River District Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy (Don) Johnson of Morris and Marcia (Robert) Langtry of Marine City, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kim (Scott VanDuyne) Mann and Craig Johnson, both of Morris, Laurie (Mike) Gardner and Tom Langtry, both of Michigan; five great-grandchildren, Alexx Mann, Jordin Hay, Daniel VanDuyne, Ella and Libby Gardner; one brother, Gerald (Lois) Stangland; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Edith (Wesley) Jorstad, Charlotte (Lewis) Johnson and Shirley (Claude) Heap.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Morris.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, immediately following the visitation. Pastor Phil Gruenbaum will officiate.

Inurnment of ashes will be at Saratoga Cemetery in Morris.

Preferred memorials are to be made to Friends in Christ Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
