Herbert “Ray” Phillips

BELLA VISTA, Ark. — Mr. Herbert “Ray” Phillips, 82, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Ark.

Born July 29, 1930, in Mount Vernon, Ill., Herbert was the son of Curtis Phillips and Golda Wangler Phillips.

He was raised and educated in Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ray married Shirley Berg on May 2, 1959. They lived in Hammond, Ind., and he worked for Cities Service Oil Company. They moved to Morris, Ill., in 1977 where he was employed by Northern Illinois Gas Company. They retired to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1996.

He was a member of the Lions Club, Fly-Tiers Club, and a volunteer at AARP Recycle Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Claude Phillips

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley Phillips of Bella Vista, Ark.; three daughters, Laura Lindemann (Harold) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Linda Ryder (Randy) of Morris, Julie Walker of East Moline, Ill.; two brothers, William Phillips (Alma Jean) of Kentland, Ind., Frank Phillips (Sue) of Highland, Ind.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista.
