Midewin to hold ‘Trick or Treat Bunker Style’

WILMINGTON, Ill. — Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie will hold its third annual “Trick or Treat Bunker Style” Halloween Adventure Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012.

Participants are invited to sit around the campfire and enjoy hot chocolate.  Smokey Bear goodie bags will be distributed to the first 100 children. Costumes are optional.

Children and adults will walk along a trick-or-treat route where they will meet “mystery” guests and Halloween animal friends.

The event is free, and walking of about 1 mile is involved.

Reservations are recommended via e-mail at Midewin_RSVP@fs.fed.us or call (815) 423-6370.

Walk-ins are welcome, however, space cannot be guaranteed without a reservation.

The guided Halloween adventure lasts more than an hour and departs every 15 minutes between the times of 5:15  p.m. and 7 p.m. The Iron Bridge Trailhead is the destination, which is about 2 miles north of the Welcome Center on Illinois 53.
