University of Illinois Extension, Grundy County, invites area residents to a Field Day from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 19, at Creekside Natural Farm. The farm has a lot of features to observe, and will provide information that should be of immense benefit to small acreage farmers.

Creekside Natural Farm is a small family farm located in Minooka, It is owned and operated by Bill and Pam Kunke.

They grow a large variety of vegetables and also have brown eggs produced by pastured hens. And they keep alpacas, too.

Everything they sell is produced on their property, and, therefore, they only have vegetables and fruits that are “in season.”

No chemical sprays or fertilizers are used in their enterprise. The Kunkes have also erected two high tunnels on their farm, allowing them to extend the growing season. And they utilize solar panels to provide some of their energy needs on the farm.

A registration fee of $5 is required to reserve a spot. For further information, contact University of Illinois Extension, Grundy County, at (815) 942-2725, email James Theuri at or visit the website

Directions to Creekside Natural Farm: Driving on Interstate 80 (I-80), come to exit 122 to Minooka, go north on Ridge Road (also known as County Highway 11). Travel 2.5 miles, turn left on Bell Road, travel 0.2 miles, arrive at destination which will be on the right.
