Man injured in assault files suit against bar, owner and attacker

A man is suing a downtown Morris establishment, its owner and a man who allegedly assaulted him for a 2011 incident at the former Lagoon Saloon & Grub Grill.

According to court records, Joseph Vogler filed suit Sept. 27 regarding an Oct. 1, 2011 incident at the business, which was located at 100 E. North Street and Liberty Street. Defendents listed in the suit are Connally, Inc., doing business as Lagoon Saloon & Grub Grill, owner Brian J. Steed, individually and doing business as Lagoon Saloon and David M. Sikora.

Vogler claims the establishment, through its employees, sold alcohol to Sikora, which caused him to become intoxicated and “maliciously and wantonly assaulted and beat” Vogler. The alleged attack inflicted facial and eye injuries, including an orbital bone fracture and continued vision problems, the lawsuit records said.

Vogler is seeking at minimum $50,000 for damages including disabilities, pain and disfigurement, medical, hospital and other expenses.

Joseph A. Mueller of Morris is representing Vogler.
