Frances Violet McNellis

Mrs. Frances Violet McNellis, 98, of Morris, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 25, 2012, at her home on Village Court in Morris.

Born Feb. 14, 1914, in Morris, Frances was the daughter of Lewis and Anna (Enger) Johnson. She received her education at Erienna School and Morris High School.

Frances married Edward McNellis on Jan. 30, 1940, with Father John Plaznik officiating the ceremony. Their attendants included Edward’s brother, Joseph McNellis and Fran’s niece, Pearl Janette Hegland.

Frances worked as an assessor and at the Treasurer’s office in Grundy County. With her husband, Fran farmed the family farm in Erienna Township for 38 years.

Upon their retirement in 1977, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where they resided for 25 years. Frances returned to the Morris area in 2002.

Frances was a member of the St. Thomas Apostle Church in Phoenix, Ariz., and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris.

Survivors includee one brother, Alvin ”Bud” Johnson, formerly of Seneca, Ill., and now of the Rivershores Nursing Home in Marseilles, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Anita McNellis of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, on Feb. 7, 2001; five brothers, Cryder (Mabel Swanson), Harvey (Ellen Shaver), Lewis (Charlotte Stangland), Ray and Ernest; three sisters, Grace Hegland Shepley, Luella Larson Lundy and Ruby Terry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Edward J. Howe, CR will officiate.

Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, until the time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice or donor’s choice.

Pallbearers will be James McNellis, Edward Smith, Tony Smith, John Appleget, Randy Larson, Bill Johnson, Bob Johnson and Jim Hegland.
