John J. Spetyla

Mr. John J. Spetyla, 66, of Morris, passed away at his home Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 29, 1946, in Chicago, Ill.,  John was the son of Helen and Joseph (Tauteris) Spetyla.

He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1964 to 1971. While serving in Vietnam, he was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle M-14, Vietnam Service Medal and one Overseas Service Bar. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 6049 in Morris.

After an honorable discharge, John worked at Interstate Nuclear Service from 1988 until his retirement in 2004.

In 1991, John married Valorie L. Bewinga, who survives. John has six children, Robert Spetyla of Morristown, Tenn., Michael Duey of Williamsburg, Iowa, Annette (Mark) Klepk of Tucson, Ariz., Sherry (Jeff) Lawrence of Morris, Laura (Dave) Knoblich of Coal City, and Bonnie McNabb of Morris.

Survivors also include 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Sandy Spetyla.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington, Morris.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at the U. C. Davis and Sons Funeral Home Ltd. Pastor Roy Backus will officiate.

Burial will be at Abraham National Cemetery with military honors presented by the Morris Color Guard.
