Varsity Warriors move on in playoffs

The Morris Warriors varsity youth football team had to dig deep to fend off an upset-minded Bourbonnais Bears team, winning 16-6 in second-round River Valley Youth Football playoff action Sunday.

The Warriors (9-1) were up 16-0 at halftime behind solid running from Michael Feeney, Michael Gerischer and Keagan Sobol.  n the second half the Warriors could not score and were able to hold the Bears to a single touchdown to preserve the win. Defensively the Warriors were led by Merrick Hairapetian, Kenny Graman, Alex Lawyer and Alonzo Enriques.

With the win, the Warriors will face off against the Lemont Hornets next Sunday at Providence Field in Joliet. 

New Lenox 26,
Morris 0

The Warriors (6-4) were able to get some yards late in the game on passing from Mitchell Mayberry to Mason Lewis. Defensively the Warriors could not stop a balanced New Lenox squad.  Defensive leaders for the Warriors included Daniel Borgstrom, Tony Menozi, Austin Hastings and Seth Coote.

Frankfort Black 7, OT

In overtime, the Warriors (10-0) scored on fourth down behind a touchdown surge from Nicholas Matthias.  he defense then had to step up and hold the Falcons to no score to seal the win. Defensively the Warriors were led by Scott Dale, Robby Bates, Brandon Phelps and Zander Smith.

With the win, the Warriors advance to the semifinals next Sunday against the New Lenox Junior Knights in Joliet.

Tristen Martin had 2 touchdown runs for the Warriors (6-4). Defensive leaders included Zach Romak, Troy Mutz, Cameron Hatcher and Cameron Anderson.
