Banquet, auction to provide support to Under His Wings

Nov. 3 fundraiser to benefit ministry effort

OTTAWA, Ill. — Under His Wings’ annual banquet and auction will be Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Festivities Unlimited located at 1504 Popular St. (U.S. 6 and Popular) in Ottawa.

With the theme “Love BEARS All Things,” the fundraiser will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a social time and viewing of items donated by local businesses for the evening’s silent auction.

Dinner, catered by Festivities Unlimited, will begin at 6 p.m. This year’s speaker will be Pastor Donny Jewett, son of Pastors Tom and Kim Jewett, the executive director’s of Under His Wings.

Music will be provided by “2 Dads 2 Daughters” comprised of Denny Rockey and his daughter, Marissa, and Mark Wilson and his daughter, Mallory.

Under His Wings, established in 1985, is a Pro-Life Christian ministry for pregnant women and babies and operates a maternity home at 301 Nebraska St., Ottawa, as well as two pregnancy care centers in Ottawa and Morris.

All services are offered free of charge to women and are supported by donations and receipts from sales at the Under His Wings Resale Store, 802 Liberty St., Morris. The ministry is operated entirely by volunteers.

The executive directors, Pastors Tom and Kim explain that “the maternity program is for pregnant women through delivery and 12 months after the baby is born. The New Moms program is a 12-month program designed for mothers with a small infant, and the New Beginnings program is for women in need of housing.

Services offered by Under His Wings include temporary housing, food, clothing, prenatal classes, transportation, counseling, cooking classes, parenting classes and numerous other support programs. Under His Wings also offers free pregnancy tests as well as free diapers, baby formula, food and clothes.”

“We treat the women that God has brought to us as family members and we give them our love and support, to help them become independent individuals and responsible parents,” Pastors Tom and Kim said. “Our mission at Under His Wings is to help girls find and fulfill the purpose for which they were created.”
