The Morris Warriors lightweight squad upended the New Lenox Junior Knights 19-7 last weekend to advance to the River Valley Youth Football Super Bowl, where they will face the unbeaten New Lenox Junior Warriors Sunday in Ottawa.
The Warriors (12-0) used a balanced offensive attack, scoring on breakaway runs from Kevin Countryman and Nick Matthias. Cole Laurie connected on a 17-yard TD score to Mundo Meyer just before halftime. Defensively the Warriors held down the Knights most of the game behind solid defensive play from Robby Bates, Zander Smith, Brandon Phelps and Seth Coote.
Rushers Keagan Sobol and Michael Gerischer of Morris (10-2) were able to put together over 150 yards of rushing against the stingy Hornets defense in the River Valley Youth League semifinals. Defensively, the Warriors' Avery Hofmann, Kenny Graman, Ricky DelFavero and Pauley Ostafin have outstanding games.
