(MCT) — The man police said is responsible for forcing an 87-year-old ex-Marine to spend Veteran’s Day weekend in a medically induced coma was ordered held Sunday on $350,000 bail.
Michael Izeta, 26, had been charged with felony DUI resulting in serious injury and cited with striking a pedestrian, running a red light and driving without insurance or a driver’s license.
An elderly veteran was crossing North Broadway on Friday when he was struck and flung into the air by Izeta’s 1993 Pontiac Bonneville, police said.
A police officer was driving behind Izeta when the crash occurred. Officers found Izeta, of the 6100 block of North Damen Avenue, where he wrecked his car a block from the scene of the crash. Izeta blew a 0.215 on the Breathalyzer, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
