Channahon Methodists welcoming Rev. Good

Served for 18 years at church in Sugar Grove

CHANNAHON — The Rev. Steve Good was appointed as pastor of Channahon United Methodist Church in July 2012, replacing the Rev. Ann Spur-geon upon her retirement.

The Bishop of the Northern Illinois Conference announced the move after Rev. Good served 18 years as pastor of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. 

Good has served as an ordained United Methodist minister for 25 years. Prior to Sugar Grove, he served in Elgin and Geneva.  He also served in leadership roles in churches in Lemont and Chicago  before his ordination.

Good grew up in Westmont and Downers Grove and is a son of Bob and Jane Good.  His sister, the Rev. Barb Good, is pastor of the United Methodist Church in Antioch, Ill.

Good received his undergraduate degree at Goshen College in Indiana and his Master’s degree at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.

He has been married to Raney Good for 25 years; she is an ordained deacon in the United Methodist Church and teaches six-th grade at Kaneland Harter Middle School.

The Goods have two sons, Dylan, a junior at North Central College in Naperville, and Spencer, a junior at Kaneland High School.

“People have been very welcoming and genuine to me and my family,” said Good. “They have been patient with me as I work at remembering names and relationships.

“My task in this first year is to listen to their stories, to observe what works well and what needs improvement, and to offer leadership where it is needed.”

ood continued, “I look forward to meeting people outside of our congregation as well and learning about the strengths and needs of the larger community.”
