Shirley S. Anderson

LISBON, Ill. — Mrs. Shirley S. Anderson, 78, of rural Lisbon, Ill., passed away early Thursday morning, Nov. 15, 2012, at Morris Hospital.

Born Aug. 14, 1934, in Waterman, Ill., Shirley was the daughter of Harvey and Amy (Thornson) Kirkhus. She graduated from Leland High School with the class of 1952 and received her bachelor's degree in music from Northern Illinois University.

Shirley married Rolf Anderson on July 7, 1956, in Leland. For all of their married life, they farmed in the Lisbon area.

She taught music at Marseilles Grade School, Marseilles High School and Plattville Grade School. Later, she was employed at Sue Ann Shop and Kidding Around, both in Morris.

For more than 50 years, she was the organist at Grace Lutheran Church. Shirley was a soloist and organist for many families for weddings and funerals.

She was member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as an election judge in Big Grove Township.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Rolf; three sons, Kirk (Tecya) Anderson of Lisbon, Kent Anderson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Scott (Diane) Anderson of Moline, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Kirstie, Mike, Dan and Amy Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Morris. Pastor Steven Heilmann will officiate.

Interment will follow at Saratoga Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Grace Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be given to Joliet Area Community Hospice or Saratoga Cemetery Association.
