(MCT) — A house fire has left one person dead this morning in Crest Hill, authorities said.

The fire started at a house in the 2300 block of Caton Farm Road about 9 a.m., according to Lockport Fire Protection District Lt. Robert Vargo.

A representative for the Will County Coroner's office was called to the scene, said Vargo. The fire was extinguished within about a half an hour, leaving the home destroyed by the flames.

"It gutted the house," Vargas said.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District was also on the scene, according to Deputy Chief Jon Stratton, who said his department assisted by sending one truck to the fire.

Fire officials remain on the scene investigating Sunday morning.
