Helen M. Johnson

NEWARK, Ill. — Mrs. Helen Marguerite Johnson, 86, of Newark, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at Valley West Community Hospital.

Born June 1, 1926, in Sandwich, Ill., Helen was the daughter of Anton & Letty (Gravley) Anderson. She married Marvin Eugene Johnson on Feb. 17, 1945, at the Newark Lutheran Church. She had been a cook at the Newark Grade School for 25 years.

Helen enjoyed camping and traveling with family and friends. She was also well-known for her Kringla and other Norwegian treats.

Helen loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Newark Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcia (Floyd) Nagel of Newark and Kay (Glenn) Estensen of Newark; three sons, Gordon (Kathy) Johnson of Gold Canyon, Ariz., Wayne (Vicki) Johnson of Newark and James (Diane) Johnson of Newark; 14 grandchildren, Laurie Belinski, Tonya (Bob Grayson) Nagel, Angela (Brandon) Niles, Christopher Estensen, Mindy Estensen, Ryan (Tracy) Johnson, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Johnson, Stacey Johnson, Amy (Kyle) Gibbs, Alissa (Christopher) Lacy, Megan (David) Lee, Aaron (Laura) Johnson, Peter (Erika) Johnson and Sarah (Christopher) Acker; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don (Sharon) Anderson of Newark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Johnson; a grandson, Matthew Estensen; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Steeves; and a brother, Robert Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Newark Lutheran Church, 101 E. Liberty St., Newark, Ill., 60541. Pastor Charles Sampson will officiate.

Interment will be at the Saratoga Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
