Martin faces GOP primary vs. Werden

Muffler makes bid to unseat Kopczick in April ’13 official

Monday was the final day to file petitions to run for election for city of Morris offices and, although there will be several races in April’s general election, there will only be one primary race in February 2013.

The Fourth Ward will have the only primary race on Feb. 26, 2013. Incumbent Alderman Bill Martin is running for re-election as a Republican and Lori Werden is running on the Republican ticket as well.

The general election will be April 9, 2013.

Each of Morris’ four wards has two aldermen representing it, and in each ward, one position is up for election next year.

In the First Ward, Alderman Don Hansen, Republican, turned in his petition to run again, as did Democrat June Fox.

Incumbent Ken Sereno, a Republican, is the only candidate for the Second Ward.

In the Third Ward, Democrat Jeff Wachowski has turned in a petition to run, as has former aldermen Don Matteson, a Republican.

City Treasurer MaryBeth O’Brien, a Republican, and City Clerk Enger, also a Republican, are running unopposed.

For the city’s top office, there will not be a primary election, but there will be a race April 9.

Incumbent Mayor Richard Kopczick, a Democrat, will fight to keep his seat against current Alderman Drew Muffler, a Republican.

Kopczick has been mayor since 2001. Muffler first became alderman in 2009.
