Thomas F. Haas

VERONA — Mr. Thomas F. "Tom" Haas, 81, of Verona, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, Nov. 28, 2012, at Morris Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born June 15, 1931, in El Paso, Ill., Thomas was the son of Frank J. and Lillian Gibbs Haas. He received his education in the El Paso schools and graduated from El Paso High School with the Class of 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Tom married Dorothy E. Ashbaugh on Jan. 5, 1978, at the Mazon Methodist Church. He was employed with Federal Paper Board Company and then with Jefferson Smurfit for 11 years, retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed spending time and visiting with his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 34 years, Dorothy; his eight children, Lillian Howell of Normal, Ill., Francis Jean Haas of Normal, Frank (Bonnie) Haas of El Paso, Ill.; Clyde (Sharon) Haas of Clinton, Ill.; Russell (Myma) Haas of Normal, Raymond (Donna) Haas of El Paso, Ill.; Kurt (Lisa) Haas of Bloomington, Ill.. and Timothy Haas of Normal, Ill.; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; three grandchildren; and step-son, Robert E.  Ashbaugh on Jan. 6, 2003.

Private graveside services and inurnment for Thomas F. Haas will be on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Ward Cemetery. The Rev. Jill Bunker of the Verona Methodist Church with officiate.

Per his directions, cremation rites were accorded with the Schultz Crematory in Streator, Ill.
