DWIGHT, Ill. — Ruth A. Burkhardt, 95, of Dwight, Ill., formerly of Gardner, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Walnut Grove Village in Morris.
Born Aug. 2, 1917, in Gardner, Ruth was the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Woodland) Morris.
Ruth was a member of the Church of Hope in Gardner. She graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School in 1935. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors.
For more than 60 years, Ruth and her husband farmed in the Goodfarm Township area.
Ruth also enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include her son, Alan J. Burkhardt of Dwight; daughter, Sandra (Edward) Christensen of Coal City; two grandchildren, Jori Christensen and Dana (Tori) Christensen, both of Coal City; seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ryleigh, Jillian, Abigail, Brodie, Aiden and Elsa Christensen; two sisters, Wanda Markiel and Bette Wolfe, both of California; one brother, Kenneth Morris of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Burkhardt, whom she married Aug. 1, 1936, in Morris; a son in infancy; four sisters, Esther Grinter, Frances Morris, Ethel “Sis” Anderson and Eloice Morris in infancy; and her six brothers, Jack Morris, James Morris, Raymond Morris, Wayne Morris, Clarence Kingman and Gordon Kingman.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville. Pastor Jan Chandler will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be directed to Walnut Grove Village, 1095 Twilight Dr., Morris.
