James Joseph Pantaleone

COAL CITY — Mr. James Joseph Pantaleone, 82, of Coal City, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his home.

Born May 17, 1930 in Coal City, Jim was a son of the late James Joseph Sr. and Madeline (Marietta) Pantaleone. He was raised and educated in Coal City, and graduated with the Coal City High School Class of 1948.

He was veteran of the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean Conflict.

Jim married June Rose McLuckie on Oct. 15, 1955, at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2012. He worked as a butcher and meat cutter for A&P for most of his career and held the position of mayor of Diamond in the early 1970s.

Jim was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, American Legion and Good Sams Camping Club – Atom Sams Chapter. He enjoyed walking at the Coal City Area Club, camping and gardening. In his free time, Jim took pleasure in reading, especially westerns.

Survivors include his two children, James (Sharyl) Pantaleone of Anchorage, Alaska, and Carol Pantaleone of Batavia, Ill.; three grandchildren, David Pantaleone, Rob Pantaleone and Scott Pantaleone, all of Anchorage; one brother, Peter (Juanita) Pantaleone and one sister, Joan (the late Harold) Ryan, both of Coal City; and two sisters-in-law, Jessie (the late Kenneth) Nixon of Sarasota, Fla., and Darlene McLuckie of Coal City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June Rose; brother-in-law, Thomas McLuckie; and nephew, Mark McLuckie.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial will be scheduled at a later date.

Jim will be laid to rest with his wife June Rose at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.
