Edna M. Kimmey

LaPORTE, Ind. — Mrs. Edna Mary Kimmey, 92, of LaPorte, Ind., passed away with her family by her side Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver, Ind.

Edna was born July 18, 1920, in Monterey, Ind., the daughter of Fredrick and Leita (Skinner) Overmyer. She married Allen Kimmey on July 25, 1935. Together they raised five children and lived in Knox, Ind., LaPorte, Ind., Ravenna, Ohio, and Wilmington, Ill., following Allen’s career with the government. After their retirement, they lived in Dowagiac, Mich., Niles, Mich., and LaPorte.

Edna worked as a telephone operator in Knox and Ravenna, and at Uniroyal and APSA in Wilmington.

She is survived by one son, Robert (Sharon) Kimmey of Braceville, Ill; three daughters, Beverly (Dean) Wells of Bass Lake, Ind., Leita (Roger) Spencer of Westlake, Ohio, and Cheryl Hammen of Thompsons Station, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Kimmey, of Knightstown, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and 2 step great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Allen Kimmey; her twin brother, Fredrick Overmyer; and her half-sister, Betty (Overmyer) Lendberg.

Edna enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel in Knox, Ind., with burial at Ora Cemetery.
