Mary Isabel Erickson

MARSEILLES, Ill. — Mrs. Mary Isabel Erickson, 83, of Marseilles, Ill., passed away at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at home with her loving family at her side.

Born Jan. 16, 1929, in Potomac, Ill., Mary was the daughter of Cornelius and Vara (Camp) Baker. She married the love of her life, Carl Erickson, on Nov. 5, 1948. They just shared their 64th wedding anniversary.

Mary loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed singing in the choir, playing in the spoon band, sewing, crafts, homemaking and reading. She collected antique vases and bells from around the world.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Seneca. Her many activities included being a Brownie/Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, PTA officer, Lutheran Women’s Church Circles, assisted with voter registration and volunteered at ReRuns in Ottawa for 17 years.

For the past 28 years, she spent the winters with her husband in either Florida or Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Carl (Junior) Erickson; children, Kenneth (Gloria) Erickson of Morris, Cheryl (Ken) Stevenson of Spring, Texas, Carla (Charles) Libby of Sugarland, Texas, Tracey (Steve) Duncan of Minooka, and Stacey (Dan) Wren of Minooka; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jennifer) Erickson, Trisha (Adam) Peterson, Scott Erickson, Mark Hammer, Travis Libby, Carl (Ashley) Libby, Jenna Libby, Bryce Duncan, Breah Duncan, Brandon (Alyssa) Spier and Chandler Spier; eight great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Morton “Russell” Baker of Streator, Ill.; one sister, Nancy Shockey (Tom Hadley) of Port Richey, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Helen Baker of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Keith; her five brothers, Delmar, Louis, Leland "Pete," William and Robert Baker; and one sister, Anna Mae Ingle; and her parents, Cornelius and Vara Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Seneca, Illinois. Rev. Kris Zierke will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the church.

Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Seneca.

Memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Seneca.
