Elizabeth Ann Johnson

NEWARK, Ill. — Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Johnson, 80, of Newark, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at her home.

Liz was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Morris, Ill., to Roy and Gladys (Leach) Hutchings. She married Gene Johnson on Aug. 16, 1952, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris.

She had been a school bus driver for Newark High School for 41 years She was a very active member of the Newark Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending the ’50’s Luncheon (Morris Group), as well as having coffee with her cousins at Walmart and her friends at the Country Kitchen.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Johnson, of Newark; her daughter, Terry Sue Read of Yorkville, Ill.; her two sons, Timothy (Rebecca) Johnson of Yorkville and Tod Johnson of Newark; five grandchildren, Nicholas (fiancé Jessica Shafer) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Tara (Chad) Messersmith, and Russell (Rebecca) Read III; two great-grandchildren, Ravin Read and Hailey Messersmith; a brother, Robert (Lorene) Hutchings of Morris; and nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roy Hutchings Jr.; and a son in-law, Russell Read Jr.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Newark Lutheran Church, 101 E. Liberty St., Newark, with Pastor Charles Sampson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, at the church fellowship hall.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Johnson, Scott Johnson, Russell Read III, Chad Messersmith, David Kellogg and Fred Akre.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
