Edythe Johnson

WILMINGTON, Ill. — Mrs. Edythe “Edie” Johnson, 89, Wilmington, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Ill.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Custer Park, Ill., Edythe was the daughter of the late Elroy R. and Esther C. (Weiske) Clemans.

Edie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington. She was very active in the United Methodist Women and Mary Ruth Circle, where she was the former officer of both clubs. She was past-president of the Will County Club League from 1970-1972.

Edie had many hobbies such as sewing and cooking. She was also an avid baker, and was known for her lemon meringue pie.

Throughout her life, she was active in many organizations and had many hobbies, but she always loved the farm and was an excellent farm wife.

Survivors include her husband, LaVerne “Sam” Johnson of Wilmington, whom she married May 4, 1946, in Symerton, Ill.; one son, James (Diane) Johnson of Wilmington; one daughter, Susan (Wally) Evans of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Josh Johnson, Brett Lewis, Beth (Donnie) Smith, Jill (Glen) VanDuyne and Jacob Evans; three great-grandchildren, Catherine and Emma Smith, and Jackson VanDuyne; niece, Mary (Steve) Gajcak of Joliet, Ill.; and nephew, Tim (Rosella) Trotter of Winfield, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James “Bud” Clemans; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Almeda (Johnson) Trotter.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington. Pastor Hyujae Lee will officiate.

Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd. & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 401 E. Kahler Rd., Wilmington, Ill., 60481, would be appreciated.
