Gerald L. Stoddart

MARSEILLES, Ill. — Mr. Gerald L. “Jerry" Stoddart, 81, of Marseilles, Ill., and formerly or rural Seneca, Ill. passed away peacefully in his home, with his loving wife at his bedside, Friday evening, Dec. 28, 2012.

Friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, from noon until the hour of funeral services at 2 p.m. in Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Illinois 47 and DuPont Road, Morris. Pastor Dale N. Schilling will officiate.

Interment with full military honors conducted by the Morris Color Guard will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Born Sept. 17, 1931, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Arthur and Doris Palmer Stoddart, Jerry proudly served his country, enlisting in the U. S. Air Force on Nov. 16, 1951, during the Korean conflict. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 15, 1955.

Jerry married the love of his life, Caroline G. Elkinson, on April 2, 1955, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillside, Ill.
 
He was employed with Hunt Foods in Chicago for several years and then was employed as the cost accountant and purchasing agent with Sponge Cushion Inc. in Morris, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church at Illinois 47 and DuPont Road.

Surviving is his loving wife of over 57 years, Caroline; one brother, Robert Stoddart, who resides in Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William (in infancy) and Phillip.

Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Jerry’s memory directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
