MARSEILLES — A person was airlifted to a suburban hospital after being involved in an accident New Year’s Day when the driver was allegedly driving drunk.

Marseilles police charged Clinton J. Carrera, 26, of Marseilles, with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper lane usage.

Just before 2:30 a.m., police responded to a crash near the intersection of Wallace and Aurora streets. Carrera’s vehicle crossed Aurora street and landed in a local waterway.

There were three people in the vehicle — Carrera, the driver, along with two passengers.

One of the passengers was flown to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Carrera and the other passenger were taken to local hospitals by ambulance for treatment.

Marseilles police, fire department and ambulance were all on scene.
