ROUNDUP: Morris bowlers defeat Rochelle

Morris claimed a 3,272-2,558 victory over Rochelle Thursday at its home facility, Echo Lanes, in Northern Illinois Big 12 East varsity girls bowling.

Savannah Strange bowled a 647 series with game scores of 170, 248 and 229 for the Redskins, who are now second in the conference. Taylor Warwick totaled a 633, with a high game of 237.

"It was a good win, and it was good to see Savannah and Taylor bowl well. Being on the varsity team last year, they are the most experienced of the varsity players," Morris coach Harry Banks said.

Imelda Garcia bowled a 472 and Hayleigh Knott a 455 for the junior varsity Redskins, who continue to lead the conference following a 2,302-1,899 win over Rochelle.

Seneca vs. Westmont, Wilmington

SENECA — The Fighting Irish (12-12) lost 51-12 to Wilmington and beat Westmont 54-6 Thursday in the Interstate Eight Conference. Double winners from Seneca were Bailey Lejawa (138), 5-1 versus Wilmington and by fall in 1:33 versus Westmont, and Tommy Lovett (160), 10-4 versus Wilmington and by forfeit versus Westmont.

Coal City vs. Lisle, Sandwich

COAL CITY — In the I-8 Thursday, the Coalers lost 37-27 to Sandwich but defeated Lisle 38-25. They got 2 wins each from Cody Minnick (113), 7-4 against Sandwich and 14-6 against Lisle, Casey Brown (126), 8-4 against Sandwich and 12-0 against Lisle, Michael Czaja (160), by fall in 2:34 against Sandwich and in 1:00 against Lisle, and Ryan Naples (170), by forfeit against Sandwich and by fall in 3:04 against Lisle.

DWIGHT — Emily Halliday scored 17 points to lead the Lady Coalers (14-3, 5-1) Thursday in I-8 play. They got 14 points and 7 rebounds from Donjeta Shabani.

Lisa Bruner led Dwight (4-12, 2-5) with 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Seneca 52,
Manteno 24

MANTENO — Danielle Hauch and Jacey Lamboley scored 10 points each for the Lady Irish (10-9, 6-1) Thursday in the I-8. Chelsie McCormick added 9.

"Nice team effort to open the new year," Seneca coach Barb Beck said. "Got a lot of good minutes from many players."

Seneca (11-5, 5-2) won 45-21 at the sophomore level behind 12 points from Willow Stuedemann, 9 from Emma Bedeker and 8 from Lexi Trompeter.

SYCAMORE — Jordan Miracle scored 10 points and Jacob Jurasits and Jackson Shannon 6 for Morris Thursday in the NIB12 East "A" game.

In the "B" game, Morris lost 32-24 despite 10 points from Andrew Eichorst and 4 from Trevor Mathis.
