Speech team finishes first half of season

Kirsten Bridgemen, Kayla Haupt and Robbi Hicks were named as tournament champions in their respective categories at the Coal City Winter Break Invitational.

The Morris Community High School Redskin Speech Team finished its first half of the regular season on Dec. 15 with a second-place finish at the Coal City Winter Break Invitational at Coal City High School.

Lemont was the first-place team, besting the Redskins by four points.

Tournament champions were Kirsten Bridgemen and Kayla Haupt in Dramatic Duet Acting and Robbi Hicks in Original Oratory.

Second-place finishers were Alyssa Rogers in Radio Speaking, Josh Hosek and Jacob O’Marrah in Humorous Duet Acting, Jacob O’Marrah in Informative Speaking, Kirsten Bridgemen in Dramatic Interpretation, and Sophie Gaska in Oratorical Declamation.

Third-place medalists were Madison Rodgers in Prose Reading and Rhett Higgins in Original Comedy. Fourth-place finishers were Gracie Jewett in Original Oratory, Kade Bashor in Extemporaneous Speaking, Madison Rodgers and Josh Hosek in Dramatic Duet Acting, Nancy Serrano in Poetry Reading, and Sylvia Salinas in Special Occasion Speaking.

Fifth-place medalists were Kade Bashor in Impromptu Speaking, Luke Terhall in Extemporaneous Speaking and Mary Wolverton in Humorous Interpretation.

And in sixth-place were Austin Allbert in Original Comedy, Carol Marie Gaska and Sophie Gaska in Dramatic Duet Acting, Carol Marie Gaska in Prose Reading, and Sam Obrochta in Impromptu Speaking.
