WGCIL receives $5,000 from United Way

Mini Grant will be used to assist disabled children

Thanks to the generosity of the United Way of Grundy County’s Board of Directors, the Will-Grundy Center for Independent Living received a $5,000 grant.

This Mini Grant, a special one-time funding, will be used for the Independent Living Skills program, specifically for the purpose of providing assistive technology devices to 10 children with disabilities who live in Grundy County.

“We are extremely grateful to the many donors to the United Way of Grundy County who made this Mini Grant possible.” Executive Director Pam Heavens said. “Our center is thrilled to be able to assist 10 Grundy County children with disabilities increase their independence as a result of this grant.”

The assistive technology program for children with disabilities allows the center to purchase up to $500 worth of assistive technology devices. A letter is needed from a physical, occupational and/or speech therapist explaining how the device will enhance the child’s independence. center staff will then order the device. After it is delivered to the center, the parent or guardian will be asked to pick up the device.
