William C. Shepherd

Mr. William C. “Bill“ Shepherd, 74, rural Morris, Ill., passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Ill.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at U. C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the First Baptist Church of Coal City, on Illinois 113, with Dr. Avery Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Sample Cemetery.

Born April 28, 1938, in Winslow, Ark., the son of John L. and Bertha Wilson Shepherd. He received his education in the schools of Winslow.

Bill married the love of his life, Barbara A. Yard, on Jan. 24, 1957, in Tahlequah, Okla., and then they returned to Morris to make their home and raise their family.
He was employed as a automobile and truck mechanic with several dealerships over the years and retired in 1996 from Rendell’s G M C in Joliet, Ill. Bill loved to tinker with anything that had an engine.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coal City, Ill.

Surviving is his loving wife of almost 56 years, Barbara, and their three children, Curtis and his wife, Katelyn, Shepherd of Morris; Betty Jane and her husband, Aldred, Johnson of McKenzie, Tenn., and Christina and her husband, Mike, Olson of Morris; one Granddaughter, Megan Olson; five grandsons, William Shepherd, Brandon Shepherd, Channing Gordon, Adam Johnson, and Mikey Olson; four great-granddaughters, Kassie, Hailey, Rain and Natalie; three great-grandsons, Kole, Mason and Joshua; one sister, Helen Martin of Prairie Grove, Ark; one brother, Wayne (Joyce) Shepherd of Morris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Charles Shepherd.

Serving as his pallbearers will be his grandchildren, William and Brandon Shepherd, Channing Gordon, Adam Johnson, and Mikey and Megan Olson.

Preferred form of remembrance would be memorial gifts in Bill’s memory directed to the First Baptist Church’s building fund.
