MINOOKA — A 43-year-old man died Monday night after being hit by a car while riding his bike.

Steven Laskiewicz of Minooka was riding his bicycle north on Ridge Road near Industrial Drive, said Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer.

"It appears the driver struck the bicyclist in the rear," he said.

The victim was transported to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at about 8:16 p.m, said Meyer. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was the only person in the car.

Minooka police are investigating and the Grundy County Sheriff's Department is doing the reconstruction of the accident. An autopsy will be performed today, Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Currently no charges have been filed. Meyer said they will have to wait for the completion of the investigation.
